Senior Analyst, Market Insights

The Toast Market Insights and Pricing team is responsible for understanding the restaurant market and competitive landscape and bringing to life the value, differentiation and proof points of our offering. This is a high-impact role that will offer senior leadership exposure and the opportunity to drive long-term shareholder value at a hyper-growth startup through the design, execution and analysis of primary research helping to answer our biggest strategic questions.


As a Senior Analyst on the Market Insights & Strategy team, you will:


  • Provide data-driven insights to inform key strategic decision making across the company, with an emphasis on market research
  • Develop holistic perspectives of complex questions by combining raw data, primary research (qualitative & quantitative), and secondary research to develop actionable insights and drive business decision making
  • Communicate findings, tell stories, and collaborate with marketing, product, and insights teams across the organization to build Toast’s collective knowledge
  • Own large, complex datasets and become the go-to resource for data analysis, cross tabulation, and an array of market research techniques (regression, segmentation, cluster, factor analysis, etc.)
  • Leverage various data sources (Salesforce, Data Warehouse, etc.) and be able to extract, transform, and build analyses and data visualizations to help answer critical questions
  • Build, test, and deploy surveys from the ground up (including questionnaire design, survey programming, sampling parameters, and data cleaning)


Do you have the right ingredients*? (Requirements)


  • Bachelor of Arts or Science and 2+ years of work experience in market research, insights, consulting, or similar job role type
  • Strong analytical skills and experience with primary market research (both quantitative and qualitative), survey design, data analysis and marketing analytics tools and techniques
  • Experience with manipulating large, dirty, and disparate datasets
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Excel (Google Sheets) & Powerpoint (Google Slides)
  • Experience with developing surveys via Qualtrics, Survey Monkey, or similar with familiarity of complex survey logic, piping, and dynamic fields
  • Foundational knowledge of probability and statistics
  • Ability to build strong, compelling storylines and recommendations that are deeply evidenced in both quantitative and qualitative research to move leadership to action
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills with the ability to effectively manage multiple project timelines, internal partners, external partners, and deadlines
  • Highly collaborative, with experience working cross-functionally to drive results
  • Comfort with ambiguity and the ability to grow in a fast-paced environment
  • Interest and passion for startups, tech, and the restaurant industry
  • Enthusiasm, and a willingness to explore, grow, and learn


Special Sauce* (Nonessential Skills/Nice to Haves)


  • Data science background with a knowledge of Python, or R
  • Experience with data visualization and business intelligence tools (Tableau, Looker, etc.)
  • Knowledge of survey dataset structure (.SAV) and how to manipulate via SPSS and syntax
