Product Marketing Manager

🏠 About us

Playground is the one-stop shop for all of the operational and financial needs of early childhood education centers. Our mission is to make excellent childcare accessible to all. Backed by Kleiner Perkins and Human Capital, Playground is the next generation of childcare software providing administrators, teachers, and parents with a smoother and more intimate childcare experience.

👤 You are...

A marketer with 5+ years of experience. When someone asks you why you’re in marketing, your answer makes them say, “that’s a great answer. This person really belongs in marketing.” Maybe you’ve been a director of marketing overseeing a team, or maybe you’ve overseen a specific program.

You’re looking to join a company with product market fit and the raw materials (passionate user community, great product, large market) for growth, but still early enough that you can have a large impact. You have experience that’s relevant to our domain - maybe in SaaS, consumer tech, and building a passionate user community. You’ve worked and thrived in roles with vague titles like “first marketing hire” that have abstract mandates like “make us grow.” You can point to experiences successfully creating and launching marketing programs.

You look at a company like us, and you have a vision for how to make it get big. You’re versatile and resourceful enough to figure out how to execute a strategy that employs subdisciplines in which you have just enough experience.

đź“š The role

The mission of this Product Marketing Manager is to tell the world about our products and to show our customers how Playground gives them a leg up.

  • We are looking for a product marketer who writes impactful marketing messages. You will develop the messaging and positioning architecture, which will be used to accelerate all our growth initiatives.
  • We are looking for a sales enabler. You will develop and design tactics that enable the sales and customer support teams to do their best work.
  • We are looking for a strategic thinker. You will develop the necessary marketing framework and process between product, sales and marketing for product releases, as well as customer needs.
  • We are looking for a customer-obsessed product marketer. You will become an expert in our product and learn how analyzing our customer behaviors will help unlock increased adoption and retention of our products and services.

We suspect our marketing program will involve:

  • Positioning and messaging (define and amplify our who, what, why, how)
  • Buyer journey mapping
  • Content marketing (content frameworks, blogging, video, website, etc.)
  • Case advocacy program (case studies, testimonials, campaigns, reviews)
  • Generating PR (running and eventually hiring resources)
  • Something with influencers
  • Social media strategy (and resourcing for management)
  • Integrated comms planning (Email, in-app marketing, etc.)
  • New user onboarding
  • Paid advertising
  • Competitive strategy

We’ll be looking to you for the specific recipe.

Here are some of the questions we’ll be asking ourselves ~6 months post hire to determine whether the role was a success:

  • Did they oversee the execution of marketing initiatives that led to meaningful growth in active users?
  • Have they been able to figure out how to get things done, given the resource constraints of a small startup with no other current dedicated marketing staff?
  • Have they developed a deep understanding of our customer?
  • Have they cultivated our user community

🎯 Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience within B2B software
  • Experience with managing paid social media campaigns
  • Self-motivated, innovative, collaborative, creative, and analytical
  • Ability to excel in a dynamic, fast-paced environment is extremely important
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Experience with the education industry (bonus)

✨ Benefits

  • Competitive pay
  • Comprehensive health and dental insurance plans
  • Flexible time away, paid holidays, and paid sick days
  • Pandemic stipend for remote office setup
