The Opportunity:

Almabase is looking to hire it’s first product marketer. Alumni relations is a 200 year old industry that’s ripe for disruption. In this role, you are required to understand the US alumni relations industry very deeply, along with the Almabase product, and communicate our value clearly to prospective customers. Our ideal candidate has 1 - 2 years of product marketing experience, an eye for detail, and can write crisply using simple language. 


Compensation

Total Salary: Rs. 7 to 12 lakhs per annum (based on prior experience and fit)

Equity will be awarded after 12 months, based on the impact created. We prefer that every employee holds equity in the company. 


Responsibilities:


  • Develop a deep understanding of alumni relations and fundraising at US educational institutions and identify thought leadership opportunities.
  • Develop a deep understanding of our products and clearly articulate the value they add to customers with the right positioning and messaging. 
  • Develop a deep understanding of competitors, determining our relative positioning and how we win against those competitors.
  • Produce different types of content to enable sales teams to convert more. Content could include webinars, whitepapers, demo videos, slide decks, blogs, case studies, etc.
  • Understand the customer journey from awareness through purchase to identify what questions are being asked, and where we can reduce friction/create momentum. Work closely with the sales team (SDRs and AEs) in this process.
  • Develop effective sales training materials, making it easy for sales people to understand the product offerings and key positioning. Assist sales on calls when appropriate to provide deeper dives into the product. 
  • Continually support the launch of new features, and also provide product management directional inputs prior to that, based on persona understanding.
  • Develop the GTM strategy for specific segments and new products. 
  • Continuously improve website copy to reflect the latest product and positioning. 


Requirements:



  • 1 - 2 years of product marketing experience. Some experience in B2B SaaS product marketing would be great. 
  • An ability to understand tech and business software including buyer behavior and ideal customer profiles and translate tech content into marketing material.
  • Writes exceptionally well, with an eye for quality and attention to detail. We prefer simple language over jargons. 
  • Need an analytical mindset to look at data to identify what’s working and what’s not.
  • Experience of working for the US region is an added advantage.


What will a typical month look like ?



  • You will primarily focus on the middle and bottom of the funnel and identify opportunities for improvement. You will work closely with sales team for this. You will then strategize, come up with a plan and execute that plan to improve those metrics. 
  • Your job will be constantly evolving as you solve bottlenecks in the funnel. Once you solve a bottleneck it just moves elsewhere in the funnel. The strategies that you deploy and the kind of content that you create will vary based on what bottleneck you are trying to solve. 
  • Once there is some consistency, you will work with the CEO to narrow down to your OKRs for each quarter and focus on achieving those objectives.

  • You need to do two things really well to be successful in this role - understand the audience and understand the product deeply.
  • You need to be turn complex topics into simple explanations. This is a really core skill that will help you succeed in this role. 
  • You need to own the outcomes, not the inputs. It’s not about how much content is created but about what outcome that helped us achieve. 
  • You need to constantly be measuring outcomes and figure out what’s working and what’s not. 
  • You need to be resourceful and help the rest of the team beyond your day to day duties. This is a strong part of our culture and is applicable to every role. 


How will we set you up for success in this role ?


  • We will provide you with detailed training to give you a headstart into the world of alumni relations and educational fundraising. We’ll also talk about competitive landscape, provide you access to hundreds of recorded conversations, and existing marketing material. 
  • We will provide you an in-depth training into our product along with sandbox access to let you play around. The focus is for you to figure out how each piece helps solve a piece of the puzzle for customers. 
  • We’ll do an in-depth study of competitive products and positioning along with you, to get a clear sense of how we’re different and what we could be doing better. 
  • You will have plenty of opportunities to be in touch with your audience by listening into calls with prospects and current customers everyday. 
  • You will have a lot of creative freedom to experiment and try new things once you understand the goals and the audience well. 
  • You will have a quarterly review with the CEO to discuss career goals and overall success, along with regular mentoring.
