Head of Product Marketing

Fishtown Analytics is building a remote-first culture and our team is distributed throughout the United States. Folks who typically work out of the Philadelphia office are working from home until it is safe to return to the office. All interviewing and on-boarding for our roles, regardless of where you are located, are taking place over Zoom for the foreseeable future.

Fishtown Analytics is looking for an experienced product marketing leader to shape positioning, messaging, sales enablement, and go-to-market strategy for dbt.  You will be the first product marketing hire, creating the foundation of what this function becomes, and eventually building a team or world-class product marketers.

This role is central in taking dbt from a community of 2,000 to 20,000 users. Your work will support the open source community, remove friction in the product led growth motion, and support our sales team selling into the Fortune 500.

This is a collaborative role. You will lead cross-functional projects with product, sales, and customer success. You will develop and execute strategies that help us hit our targets for revenue today, while establishing our brand and place in the market for the future.

Who we are

At Fishtown Analytics, we have developed strong opinions on how companies should practice analytics.

Specifically, we believe that:

--> Code, not graphical user interfaces, is the best abstraction to express complex analytic logic

--> Data analysts should adopt similar practices and tools to software developers

--> Critical analytics infrastructure should be controlled by its users as open source software

--> Analytic code itself — not just analytics tools — will increasingly be open source

It turns out that a lot of other people believe this too! Over the course of the past several years we've built a community of 6,000+ people and 2,500 companies who are using our ideas, products, and workflows to conduct analytics, including Lyft, Monzo, GitLab, Snowflake, the ACLU, Amazon, JetBlue, and RentTheRunway. Our product, dbt (https://www.getdbt.com/), has come to be synonymous with the practice of analytics engineering, defining an entire industry. We closed our Series A in April of this year, backed by a16z.

We’re on a mission to empower analysts to create and disseminate organizational knowledge. If this sounds like a mission you could get behind, we're excited to get your help to continue to power this growth into the future.

In this role you can expect to…

  • Refine the positioning and messaging for dbt
  • Build and lead a team of product marketers in shaping the analytics engineering story
  • Develop industry-leading opinions about the analytics space
  • Partner with customer success to design compelling retention and upsell narratives
  • Partner with product leaders to develop a visionary roadmap - and then translate that roadmap into a compelling pitch to customers, partners, and the industry
  • Partner with our alliances team to build strong go-to-market motions with the biggest players in our space
  • Bring creativity and narrative focus to all go-to-market activities

You are probably a good fit if you...

  • Have experience doing product marketing at a product led growth company.
  • Have experience marketing to developer persona and you're willing to go deep with the product so you can do that well.
  • Do your best work when you're incredibly close to customers.
  • Are willing to learn dbt and associated technologies. dbt is a powerful product, in order to market it well and have productive conversations with customers you’ll need to develop your skills in Git, SQL, data modeling, data warehouse performance, and visualization tools (Looker, Mode, etc.)
  • Have experience building marketing teams that deliver standout results. Experience in analytics or analytics-adjacent space is a plus.
  • Are comfortable switching from the big picture plans to in-the-weeds details – we’re still a small team and the first year in this role will be a lot of doing.
  • Are an unusually strong communicator -- you can create content for a variety of channels & formats, tailor a single message for unique audiences, and express complex ideas visually.
  • The ability to lead and collaborate with distributed teams across multiple projects simultaneously.

Compensation

  • Salary: $160k - $190k
  • Equity: 0.05% - 0.2%
  • Benefits: Unlimited vacation, 401k w/ 3% guaranteed contribution, health/vision/dental insurance, and paid parental leave

At Fishtown Analytics, we are committed to hiring and cultivating a diverse team. If you are on the fence about whether you meet our requirements, please apply anyway!

- Phone interview with our head of sales and account manager (30 minutes each)
